Designing Vertiports: From concept to concrete
The aim of this project was to design and test a virtual vertiport to understand how ground infrastructure can be integrated smoothly into passenger travel, considering local geography and certification needs. “Along with our partners, including Munich Airport International for concepts of operations, we have focused on shaping a vertiport design based on realistic use-cases” says Jochen Abt, Project lead for Airbus. “This approach ensures that the vertiport integrates the systems required for regular operations and interaction with other modes of transport. The result of this extensive research and development is a detailed digital conceptualisation of an AAM vertiport.”
Recommendations for integrating vertiports in urban and regional environments
As this concept can easily be adapted to other locations, it serves as a building block for the integration of Advanced Air Mobility in very different environments across the globe. Beyond creating immersive experiences, the project has developed actionable recommendations for local players, especially municipalities, helping them make informed decisions about implementing the necessary infrastructure. By sharing these recommendations, the initiative aims to facilitate the widespread adoption of AAM solutions and ensure their successful integration into urban transport systems.
